Our history

The guesthouse “Gasthof zur Post” in Poecking was first mentioned in 1505 as a so-called “Tafern”, which is a place with the “justice and permission to offer not only food and beverages but also accommodation”.

The “Würthschaft” (= ancient German word for public house) suffered severely in the turmoil of the Thirty Years War. There are hints to a reconstruction of the inn in the 1660ies, when the local farmers and also the landlord of the “Gasthof” where subjects of the noble owners of Possenhofen castle.

From 1766 the inn was known as a stop of the Thurn & Taxis Imperial Post and became a general post office soon afterwards. On January 4, 1803, Josef Böld (ancestor of today´s Pölt family) bought the highly indebted inn.

The Pölt family has been managing the “Gasthof zur Post” in Pöcking for six generations now.
